The principal forums through which the Chinmaya Mission disseminates the man-making knowledge of Vedanta are Gnana Yagnas. A “Gnana Yagna” means “knowledge sacrifice”-a ‘sacrifice’ where one’s ignorance and negative tendencies are burnt in the fire of spiritual knowledge.
A Gnana yagna is a 5 to 7 day series of discourses on the Bhagawad Geeta, Ramayana, Upanishads, Srimad Bhagavatham and other Vedantic texts conducted by an Acharya of the Mission. The importance of “sravanam” or listening to the scriptures is of utmost importance to the spiritual seeker which is addressed by the Gnana Yagnas.
Gnana Yagnas by the various Acharyas of the Mission in different languages are organized periodically throughout the year. Periodic Gnana Yagnas coupled with regular weekly study classes for the study of the scriptures guide the seeker on the Vedantic path of Sravana-Manana-Nidhidhyasana for Self-Unfoldment
